In acknowledgment of those who witness and sustain documentary culture. Doc Credits record ongoing participation within the India Doc community.

Doc Credits are a simple way to recognise participation in the India Doc Project ecosystem.
They acknowledge the many small but meaningful actions that help documentary culture grow - from sharing our work and showing up for screenings to amplifying conversations that matter.

As you engage with the platform, your credits accumulate over time and can be redeemed for curated benefits across India Doc Project programmes.
It’s our way of building a more connected, participatory documentary community - one action at a time.

Why This Charter Exists

India Doc Project exists to support documentary culture, not as a filmmaking platform, but as a film promotion and facilitation platform.
Over time, we have seen a familiar pattern across cultural ecosystems: many people want to benefit from platforms like ours—screen their films, access opportunities, gain visibility—but far fewer are able or willing to contribute time, effort, or support to keep the ecosystem alive.
This charter exists to address that imbalance at a structural level, not through individual negotiation or confrontation, but through shared principles.

What We Are Trying to Do

IDP is building shared cultural infrastructure. That infrastructure includes:
1. Screening spaces and logistics
2. Programming and curation labour
3. Audience-building efforts
4. Research, archives, and resources
5. Communication, outreach, and visibility

None of this sustains itself.
This charter formalises a simple idea. If a community benefits from an ecosystem, it must also participate in sustaining it. Participation can take many forms—showing up, spreading the word, volunteering time, or offering financial support—but it cannot be optional for those seeking deeper access.

What We Believe

1. Documentary culture should remain public-facing and accessible.
2. Access to information and public screenings should not be gated.
3. Deeper participation, priority access, and eligibility must be earned through contribution.
4. No one should extract value from the ecosystem without contributing to it in some form.
This is not about exclusivity. It is about reciprocity.

Introducing: Doc Credits

Doc Credits are a community currency used within India Doc Project.
They represent contributions made toward sustaining documentary culture through IDP—whether through presence, amplification, labour, or financial support.
Doc Credits:
1. Do not guarantee outcomes
2. Do not buy influence
3. Do unlock eligibility and priority
Think of them as a way to share responsibility, not as a transactional shortcut.

How We See This Shaping Up

Public events, screenings, and some information will continue to remain open.
However, as IDP grows, certain opportunities - such as:

1. Priority registration for screenings
2. Private or limited-capacity screenings
3. Eligibility to apply for IDP-facilitated screenings, programs, or future grants

—will first be opened to individuals who have accumulated Doc Credits.
This ensures that those who benefit most from the ecosystem are also those helping sustain it.

*What This Is Not

To be clear, this system is not:
1. Pay-to-play
2. A membership club
3. A guarantee of selection or screening
4. A substitute for curatorial judgement
Doc Credits open doors. They do not decide what walks through them.
